Samhain is a Celtic pagan festival – here I’ve shown a few traditions. The Goddess wears a mask, she is guising as is traditional, wearing a disguise or costume is very much still part of Samhain and secular Halloween traditions.
She is burying apples, which is food for the spirits of loved ones and ancestors long buried too.
Turnips and swedes are carved and sit on the root of the the oak tree which sheds it’s leaves for autumn. Adorning the tree are pictures of ancestors and
offerings tied to the branches.
Behind her we see the thinned veil between the living and spirit world, revealing curious and possibly malevolent spirits.
